Over mij

I'm a Dutch weaver, knitter, spinner, lacemaker and love anything that has to do with fiber and yarn. And of course I like to read books, magazines, newspapers.

What's on the needles, the loom, the lace-pillow and the spinningwheel?

Het beviel me prima.
On two circular needles I knit the 'Nine-to-five socks by Nicole Hindes. I loved to have more stitches on one needle, so that I didn't keep turning. But at the heel I smuggled: I used straight needles for that.

Some time ago I bought Cat Bordhi's 'Second Treasury of Magical Knitting' and here is the first project of the book, a simple Moebius.

The start of the first basket from the same book. I've finished knitting it already, so now it has to be felted. For that I have to find the courage, though.

I'm using my Louet loom again! It's been so long since I wove on it, that I needed the user manual of the loom. For the warp I used the same handspun wool/silk blend which I used for the knitted Chrysopolis shawl. Straight threading, 24 shafts. I wanted to weave an advanced twill on it, after the instructions of the workshop we had on the Online Guild. What I feared came true: I don't like it. Although: now that I use a weft in a less contrasting colour it pleases me a little more. And Stacey (workshop teacher) wrote that the technique was best for thin yarns, so that the floats would not be so long at the turning points. In my warp, with 5 ends/cm (12 1/2 epi) the loats tend to be pretty long. And just weaving on, without turns gives these endless twill stripes. Besides: I wanted to work to the theme of our (land) weavers guild, which is water, and a point twill gives nice 'rimples'.

After my Christmas angel in bobbin lace I'm working for the lace exhibition of our lace school which will be in July. OIDFA, the international lace organisation (bobbin lace and needle lace) will have its convention in Holland this summer and there will be lace activities all through the country. I'll put photos of this work in my blog after the exhibition, but believe me: it keeps me busy!

On my Majacraft Rose I'm spinning merino. I've just finished a purple/blue variegated roving and now I'm startin a blue one, with with it will be plied. On the Roberta I plied the Clun Forest and the silk and now I'm spinning white Romney, which I want to dye.

And then I still work on Josephine, the sweater in Clun/silk and I couldn't resist: I take part in two KALS: SOTS-ii and Spring Shawl Surprise...
