It's January, a whole new year is lying ahead of us. Yet five days have gone by already and I haven't made a blog yet. It's high time to do so.
Yesterday morning the new SnB group in Medemblik met. It was quite pleasant again in that splendid place for our meeting: the Medemblik library. We were spoilt with coffee and biscuits! Every first Wednesday of the month we'll meet there.

In Hoorn the SnB group there met on Tuesday night, the first Tuesday of the month. Because evenings are not my favorite part of the day yet and because the room where the meetings are held is too dark for me, I stayed at home. I did miss seeing my knitting friends, though.

It was pretty hard to find a piece of knitting to take with me. I'm working on the alpaca cardi, and that wool is very dark indeed. The pattern, a chevron, doesn't help. Counting rows is nearly impossible.

I've decided to let my lace vest wait for a while, after I have finished the part I'm making (and have nearly done) at the moment. After the Christmas holidays I'll take lessons making Flanders lace and I'll work on that for the coming three months. Two kinds of lace at one time doesn't really work very well.

Although the piece I wove wasn't very big, I wove something. The spinningwheel was finally used again as well. Nothing is nearly finished yet, but that is hard with all those holidays and the visitors they bring with them.
Strange enough I didn't think of taking pictures of the festivities. All children and grandchildren were here together at Boxing day, in spite of the icy roads.

Around New year's Eve I read the Knitting Mystery by Maggie Sefton: Knit One, Kill Two, a book I'd on my wish list for a while. It's the first in a series of seven (I think it's still seven). A pleasant read for busy times. In the back of the book are two knitting patterns and the recipe for Cinnamon Rolls.

It's too dark to take pictures, but I have to take a few of the scarf and hat I made for Wendy (eldest GD) and of the lace raindeer we made for christmas.

Het zijn inderdaad echt donkere winterdagen. Brr.

I hope the New Year is full of many finished projects. The lessons in Flanders Lace sound like a lot of fun. It's such a pretty style of lace. I've only dabbled with Torchon and Bedfordshire myself. I totally understand about evening meetings. Our weaver's guild meets in the evening and this time of year, it's hard to drag myself out on dark snowy roads for a meeting!

I read the first three in that series and somehow forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder - they were quite fun. Sounds like a fun group you belong to, speaking of fun.
