Thank you (And some WIPs)

Om te beginnen wil ik iedereen van harte bedanken voor alle reacties op mijn vorige bericht. Dat geeft echt steun en moed. Op het moment wacht ik op uitslagen van vorige onderzoeken en volgende onderzoeken staan op het programma. Er valt verder weinig te melden. Eigenlijk voel ik me wel goed.

To begin with I want to thank everyone for the reactions to my last message here. It really helps a lot to know so many people are thinking of me and it gives me courage for the things to come. At the moment I'm waiting to hear the results of tests and waiting for more tests. Not much an be said yet. Actually I feel pretty well.

Daarom wat foto's van de dingen, waarmee ik me bezig houd. Want gelukkig zijn er nog altijd vezeltjes, draadjes en zo meer. Ook boeken zijn nog steeds heerlijk: de meeste tijd breng ik breiend of lezend door. Niet echt een straf!

Therefore a few pictures of what I've been doing. For I'm happy to say there are always fibers, yarns, thread etc. Books are great as well: most of the time I spend knitting or reading. Not a bad thing!

Deze tas breide ik naar een patroon van Cat Bordhi. Het begin is een moebiusstrook, de tas is er daarna aangebreid. Garen: resten handgesponnen wol. Het ging me vooral om het systeem. Het vilten is niet echt gelukt: de wol is nauwelijks veranderd bij het wassen in de wasmachine.

This bag I knit after a pattern by Cat Bordhi. First I knit a moebius strip, the bag itself was knit on afterwards. Yarn: bits of handspun wool. I really wanted to understand how it was done. Felting wasn't really successful: the wool hardly changed when I put it in the washing machine.

Mijn kanten vest groeit. Het is een megaproject en duurt maar door. Nog steeds ben ik niet op de helft, maar de middenachternaad (die niet zal bestaan, overigens) komt in zicht.

My lace vest is growing. It's a megaproject and seems to take forever. I'm still not halfway, but centre back is getting near.

Omdat ik nog wol overhad van de Windbraut Padua, heb ik gelijk een nieuwe Windsbraut opgezet: de Windsbraut Magelhaes. De meerderingen worden hier niet in het midden gemaakt, maar net als bij de pi-sjaal wordt af en toe het aantal steken verdubbeld, door 1r-1 omslag afwisselend te breien. De eerste meerdering zit hier ongeveer in het midden.

Because some yarn was left of knitting Windsbraut Padua I immediately cast on for another Windsbraut: the Magelhaes. Increases aren't made in the middle of this shawl, but just like with the pi-shawls the number of stitches is doubled now and then by knitting k1-yo alternatively. The first increase is in the middle of the knitting in the picture.

Hoewel ik de wol (Zitron, Filigran) wel mooi vind, vind ik hem toch vaak een beetje aan de dikke kant. Op mijn werktafel lag nog een streng handgesponnen angora/zijde (een draad van ieder, getwijnd) Dat zag er dunner uit. En de glans was zo mooi!

Although I think the wool (Zitron, Filigran) is pretty, I find it a bit on the thick side. On my worktable was a skein of handspun angora/silk (one end of each, plied). That looked thinner. And it was so beautifully lustrous!

Maar als ik brei, brei ik aan mijn Noro vestje. De kleuren van deze wol vrolijken je toch echt wel op. Hier heb ik de zijnaden genaaid, zodat ik de strook langs onder- en voorkanten kan aanbreien. Er zijn mensen, die er niet van houden, dat de kleuren bij de zijnaden niet doorlopen. Mij stoort het niet.

But most of the time I knit my Noro vest. The colours of this wool always cheer me up. Here I've sewn the side seams, so that I can start knitting the bottom and fronts. Some people don't like it, that the colours don't match at the side seams, but I don't mind.

Zo gaat het her ongeveer uitzien. De stroken zijn inmiddels bijna af en alleen de kraag moet nog gebreid worden.

This is what it's going to look like. The strips are almost done and I've just the collar left to knit.

Gistermorgen heb ik eindelijk ook weer geweven. Een tijdje ontbrak me de energie darvoor. Maar nu voelde het toch wel weer heel prettig. De schering is lang, dus ik kan nog even vooruit.

Yesterday I finally wove again. For a while I didn't have the energy for that. But now it did feel good again. The warp is long, so I can enjoy weaving for a while yet.

Nu maar hopen, dat de doktersbezoeken van de komende dagen ook goede berichten opleveren. Duim voor me!

Now just hope the visits to different doctors of the coming days will give good results. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Windsbraut Padua

Even snel nog een blogberichtje: vanaf morgen ben ik waarschijnlijk twee weken lang niet in de buurt van een computer. De afgelopen week kwam er ook al niet veel van, dus ik moet nu even laten zien, wat ik kort geleden afgemaakt heb (een van de dingen, tenminste)

Just a quick blog message: from tomorrow I probably won't be near a computer for about two weeks. The past week there wasn't much time either, so now I have to show what I made recently (one of the things, at least)

Ik ging naar de winkel om wol te kopen voor een sjaal: de nieuwste KAL van Monika Eckert op haar klabauter yahoo groep. Het zou de Windsbraut Pirat moeten worden. In de winkel wordt de Filigran Lace wol van Zitron verkocht, en daarbij krijgen de kopers het patroon cadeau van een ander patroon van Monika: de Windsbraut Padua. In de winkel zouden ze graag een gebreid voorbeeld hebben van deze sjaal, maar helaas, de breister die eraan was begonnen, kwam er niet uit. Ik bood aan dan wel eerst 'even' die sjaal te breien. En hier ligt hij dan, opgespeld.

I went to the LYS to buy wool for another shawl: the latest KAL by Monika Eckert at her klabauter yahoo group. It was going to be the Windsbraut Pirat. In the shop Zitron's Filigran Lace wool is sold and with the wool buyers get another pattern of Moni's free: the Windbraut Padua. In the shop they told me they'd like to have a knit Pdua to show people, but the knitter who had started trying to make it, didn't understand the pattern. I offered to knit this first for them then. And here it is: blocking.

De puzzelblokken schijnen nog door het breiwerk heen, maar wel is het model te zien: niet alleen maar een driehoek, maar de bovenkant loopt rond, zodat de sjaal beter hangen blijft.

The puzzleblocks are still very visible through the knitting, but the shape of the shawl is visible: it isn't a real triangle, but the top is rounded, so that the shawl will stay on the shoulders better.

En zo ziet de Padua er dan echt uit.

Het volgende project is ook al weer begonnen: Monika verveelde zich en ontwierp de Windsbraut Magalhaes, genoemd naar de ontdekkingsreiziger en daarom ook met nieuwigheden in het patroon: de meerderingen worden gemaakt op de manier van de (ronde) pi-sjaals, waarvan ik er al verschillende gemaakt heb. Toch zal deze sjaal ook (ongeveer) driehoekig worden, verwacht ik.

I've already started knitting the next project: Monika felt a little bored and designed the Windsbraut Magelaes, named after the explorer and therefore filled with novelties in the design. The stitches are added like in the round pi-shawls, of which I've made a few, but this one will still be (more or less) triangular, I expect.

Twee andere breisels, die ik deze week tussen de bedrijven door opzette: een bolero van Noro en een vestje van handgesponnen zwarte alpaca (ja, inderdaad: van de alpacaberg, die nu een gesponnen alpaca berg begint te worden) Binnenkort meer hierover, nu ben ik even weg! Tot over een poosje!

Two more knits I cast on this past week, in all the hectic: a bolero (?) of Noro (pattern and wool) and a jacket of handspun black alpaca (yes indeed, made of the alpaca mountain, which is changing in an alpaca yarn mouintain now) Soon you'll no doubt hear more about it here, but for now I'll be gone for a while. Lopende zaken

Het lijkt af en toe misschien, of ik helemaal niets textielerigs doe op het moment. Het is waar: met de warmte valt het vaak ook niet mee iets anders te doen, dan met een spannend boek in de schaduw te zitten, een wandeling of fietstocht te maken, of wat in de tuin te doen. (Bij mij beperkt zich dat de laatste weken tot rondlopen met een fototoestel)
Toch komt er zo nu en dan toch nog wel iets uit mijn handen. Even een korte impressie.

It must seem now and then, that I don't do anything textily at the moment. It's true: with the heat it often isn't easy to do something else then sit in the shade and read a good book, take a walk, go cycling or do something in the garden (which, in my case lately, is walk around with a camera)
Yet some things get done sometimes. A short impression is here.


De Tour de Fleece is lang afgelopen, en ik moet bekennen, dat ik het eind volledig gemist heb. Ravelry is al een tijd niet door mij bezocht: de computer is maar heel af en toe, voor dringende zaken,  in gebruik. Ik zat bovenop mijn alpacaberg en wat spinnen betret zit ik daar nog steeds. Carol: bedankt voor je wastip: ik ga dat een volgend keer beslist doen. Nu ga ik maar door met de manier waarop ik begonnen ben.

The Tour de Fleece has finished a long time ago and I must admit, that I com[letely missed the Finish. Ravelry hasn't be looked at for quite a while now: the computer is rarely used, just for urgent business.
I was sitting on top of my alpacamountain, and as for spinning: I'm still there. Carol: thanks for your washing tip: no doubt I'll do it like that next time. Now I'll finish the rest like I started. 
Here's all the TdF spinnings:

Het zijn toch nog verscheidene kilometers geworden! De streng alpaca en de klosjes met singles liggen links bovenaan. Inmiddels zijn er alweer heel wat meters singles bijgekomen.

It's become several kilometers! The alpaca skein and the bobbins with singles are top left. By now many more singles have been spun.


De paarse sokken zijn al geruime tijd af. Het was de mei mystery van SKA. Het was te warm om ze aan te trekken. Let op het tegengestelde patroon in de linker en rechter sok.

The May mysterysocks of  SKA were finished some time ago. It was too hot to put them on. There clearly is a left and a right sock, with the pattern going in the opposite direction.

De kleur klopt niet: het paars is veel donkerder.


The colour isn't right: the purple is a lot darker.


Hetzelfde geldt voor de foto van mijn weefsel, waaraan ik ook eindelijk weer verder werk, nu het regenseizoen hier is aangebroken (zo lijkt het tenminste). Het was bedoeld, om in de zomer af en toe even te kunnen weven, dus het weefsel moest niet te ingewikkeld zijn. Een 2/2 keper voldoet daar wel aan. Bovendien wilde ik graag de blauwe merino opmaken, die k gesponnen heb, en waarmee ik al van alles gebreid heb. Het komt maar niet op. Ik had ook een grote cone zwart glimmend garen - wat het precies is: geen idee - en ook dat moest eens uit mijn voorraad verdwijnen. De schering is dus zwart, de merino inslag blauw.


The same goes for the picture of my weaving, which I've been working at again, finally, now that the rainy season has begun again here (or so it seems). I've put on this warp, to be able to weave now and then during the summer. Therefore it shouldn't be too difficult a weave. A 2/2 twill is a good choice for that. I also wanted to finish the blue merino I'd spun, and with which I've knit a lot of things already. It still is never-ending. I also had a cone of some lustrous black yarn - I've no idea what fiber it is - and wanted that to disappear from my stash. So the warp is black, the merino weft is blue.

Omdat de keperrichting niet naar mijn zin was met alleen een merino inslag, voegde ik een linnenbinding in, van het scheringmateriaal. Het wordt zo een veel soepeler stof, dan met alleen de wollen inslag.

Because I didn't like the way the twill direction appeared with just the wooollen weft, I added a tabbyshot between the twill shots, with the warp material. The result is more drapable than with just the wool weft.


Een tijd geleden breide ik met handgesponnen zijde een sjaal, de Windsbraut Panama, ontworpen door Moni van de Klabouter (yahoo groep) KALs. Omdat ik het garen van twee versponnen zijde caps wilde geruiken, en de derde kleur teveel vond afwijken, stopte ik, toen de twee kleuren op waren. Het zag er eerlijk gezegd niet erg fraai uit en de sjaal bleef in een doosje liggen wachten, tot ik hem eindelijk op zou spannen. Dat is inmiddels gebeurd en dat viel toen even mee: ik werd er zelf helemaal enthousiast van. Nu nog maar eens zijde spinnen voor zo'n sjaal!

Some time ago I used some handspun silk to knit a shawl, the Windsbraut Panama, designed by Moni of the Klabouter (Yahoo group) KALs. Because I wanted to use the yarn of to spun silk caps, and didn't like to add a third colour (which was too different to my taste) I stopped after I'd finished the yard of these two caps. To be honest it didn't look very good and I left the shawl in a box, waiting to be blocked. That's been done now, and that was a nice surprise: I got quite happy with the result! Now I'll have to spin more silk for another sjawl like this!

Het verf/kaard/spin/breiexperiment, waarbij ik uitging van drie kleuren geverfde wol, deze door elkaar mengde met de kaardmolen, ze spon in strengetjes van tien gram en vervolgens breide in een spiraal van tie steken, is af. Mooi? Ik weet het niet. Het is of het dekentje licht geeft. Blij werd ik er wel van.

The dyeing/carding/spinning/knitting experiment, where I started with only three colours, mixed these on the carding mill, span 10-gram skeins of each colour and knit them in a spiral of 10 stitches, is done. Pretty? I don't know. It's like it's fluorescent. At least these colours did make me feel happy!

Nog een experiment in wording: het kanten vestje, waaraan ik ook werk, deze zomer. Het vordert. Niet snel, maar gestaag.

Another experiment I'm working at this summer is the bobbin lace vest. It's progressing. Not very fast, but steady.

Hier het eerste voorpand: bijna af! De bourette zijde heeft de bekende bobbeltjes, die maken, dat het soms wat lastig werken is. Ook hier vrolijkmakende kleuren.

Here the right front, nearly finished. The well known 'bumps' in the bourette silk make working a bit tricky sometimes and slow me down a bit. The colours again are keeping me happy.\


Op de breinaalden staan nog een aantal dingen (iets nieuws opzetten blijft leuk), waaronder een nieuwe kanten sjaal, de Windsbraut Padua. Hoogst verslavend breiwerk. Foto's volgen ongetwijfeld, maar op het moment brei ik (nog) met rechte breinaalden en dan is het moeilijk zo'n driehoekige sjaal in wording  te fotograferen.

On the knitting needles are a few things (casting on is always fun), among which a new lace shawl, the Windsbraut Padua. Very addictive knitting. Photos will no doubt be taken, but at the moment I'm still using straight needles and it's hard to take a photo of a triangular shawl in progress then.
