Over mij

I'm a Dutch weaver, knitter, spinner, lacemaker and love anything that has to do with fiber and yarn. And of course I like to read books, magazines, newspapers.

Vorstelijk bezoek

Last week I, or rather my king, had a visit of a colleague: Marja was here and had brought her king (from Simply Knitting, design of Alan Dart) Of course a photo had to be taken. Then I understood at the same time, why my last photos weren't as sharp as I wished: my camera had given up on me! It didn't work properly any more. Still this pic was just good enough, for two kings in our house can't be missed here!

Zijn ze niet lief?
Aren't they cute?

There wasn't much time to do much 'textily', but so now and then I could do something. The KAL of klabouter, the 'Windsbraut Spitzbergen, about which I wrote last time, is getting bigger and bigger. However... I'm using the blue handspun merino, which I also used for my blue cardi. When I'd finished three of the weekly clues, I decided I found my needle too thin and the knitting too stiff. So I frogged it all. Now I'm using 4.5 mm needles and it looks a lot better. This picture is after two clues, with the thinner needles still.

On our spinday in October everybody received a bag with five different fibers. It disappeared in my bag, just like it did with most of the others. Now I decided to take the fibers out and spin them. As you can see on the bag the fibers are (from left to right): tussah, bamboo, alpaca, soja and wensleydale.

And here are the skeins, about 8 grams each. Same order, but from right to left now.

Terwijl ik zat te spinnen hield Gerrit, onze kater, me gezelschap. Spinnen is tenslotte een kattenspecialiteit!

While I was spinning Gerrit, our cat, was keeping me company.

At the bobbinlace school we had our annual event of this time of the year: our Christmas workshop. I was there on the Saturday, with 24 other lacers: a classroom full! We could choose from different Christmas patterns from the school library and soon we were al busy working. I chose a 3-dimensional star, which you don't recagnise as such yet, because it has to be sewn together. I'll buy that book, I think, because making these stars is fun! It's 'Dreidimensionale Klöppelsterne' by Rosemarie Schmuck and Anneliese Schöder, published by Barbara Fay Verlag.

There were many birthdays and also many sick people, who needed being looked after. It was feared that GD Judith had Mexican flu and she came here when her parents were at work, with her brother Jasper. Now lets hope we don't get it as well!

Your Royal Mice are so cute. Love the colour of that blue handspun - the shawl will look great and worth going to larger needles. Oh and I do hope you stay well!

I love your mice. I am working a few of them also.
