Een paar antwoorden en weer wat af!

A few answers and more things finished!

I always like people to react to my blog. I don't always answer, though, because very often so much time has gone by since my last blog, but believe me: all reactions make me happy! Therefore here a few more or less belated answers.

Yes Carol, this is the same wool we both bought a few weeks ago. Have you started your socks already?
The yarn works good, although it's plied a bit loosely and often I knit half stitches before I knew it.

The artichoke socks I made of the yarn, are finished.

FA-135

Carol also asked about the Drops sweater design. It's model nr. FA-135
Back to the Garden' KAL! Hier is mijn eerste staaltje, met nupps. De groene kraaltjes zijn nauwelijks te zien.

Nice to see that you're also taking part in the 'Back to the Garden KAL Amanda! Here is my first swatch. The green beads are hardly visible.

The second swatch, now with silver beads. Much better, but in reality they are more visible than in this picture. I blocked this swatch pretty heavily, so it's on the bg side. I used 3.5 mm needles. This is what I intend to use for this project.

Marion: Yes, the Drops yarns are great. I love them. Here a picture of the vest I crocheted for GD. Now let's hope it will fit!
 Voorkant/Front
en achterkant/and back.

Sharon: I have had to say goodbye to my red spinning wheel. It was getting a bit old, there was too much 'give' between parts, therefore  I could get a good draw in. Besides my back started to hurt after I'd been working on it for a while. A pity, because it looked very nice. It was one of my oldest wheels, bought as a kit, years ago.

Finally a picture of my embroider cross stitch fox. The kit came with the magazine 'Cross Stitcher'.

This is my second blog of today: let's leave it at that, today!

Markt bij de molen

Craft market near the windmill.

After a few dull and dreary, wet days, the weather was better on Sunday. So we could go to the craft market at the foot of the most beautiful windmill of the province (according to a survey held by the regional newspaper), the almost local windmill De Hoop in Wervershoof.

A very Dutch picture, with a real Dutch cloudy sky.

From the start there were quite a few people present.

Of course I had to have a look at the work of one of the other pupils of our lace school. She had specialised in making fans. Looked nice!
Kunstig hoor.

I saw this nowhere before: a person who made art from vegetables and fruit. Here a watermelon, an apple, carrots and more. Well done!

These musicians had made music from the start and are leaving here. Aren't their jackets nice in combination with the roses?

On the other side of the road others left with their boat. Another very Dutch view.

Breien en haken

Knitting and crocheting

The garlic fumes have fortunately gone again. Although yesterday, when they started stirring up the soil, some smell seemed to come back. But now everything is reasonably normal and we can enjoy some fresh air.

When I was sitting in the gartden last Monday I took some photos of my knitting and crochet. Well, of a few of the projects I should say. Here are my mystery-May-socks. I finished them by now and will have to take new pics, but the artichoke pattern is visible here, as well as the beads.

The pattern was nice to knit and the sock fits quite well.

I always like experiments. Because I had some alpaca left after knitting the Metamorphosis sweater, I wanted to take it back to the shop and buy some new yarn instead. But then I decided to make it into something new. I added a variegated yarn and made this pinstripe in garter stitch. Both yarns are by Drops (Fable and alpaca/silk), as is the pattern. Back and front are made in two parts, beginning at the armholes. By increasing (the line you can see in the picture) the back (here) is shaped. When it's wide enough, the centre back stitches are cast off the rest are knit until it's long enough.
Spannend!

Long ago I promised Judith (GD2) to make her a vest. She liked this crocheted model (by Drops again) so I went to the shop and bought some Delight. Nice to be crocheting again for a change! And also to make a rather esciting pattern. The squares form the back, where the ball of yarn is, is the armhole, the bottom of the round shape will be sewn to the side of the back, just like on the other side. But first a part has to be added to the back. Exciting!

My cableblanket is progressing slowly, but steadily, but not enough to show pictures of it here now.

You might think I'd have enough to do by now. But of course I couldn't resist joining the new summer KAL of Bad Cat designs. It will be a lace shawl and I 'happened to have' a yarn, that looked just right for such a project. I bought this Estonian yarn at the weavers market in Hoorn last year, and as this event is getting near again for this year, I'd better finish up some of my stash.
Back to the Garden project. Foto's hiervan volgen.

By now I've made two samples, one with beads (with were hardly visible) and nupps, the other with silver beads (much better to see) in a pattern, that resembles more the real pattern of the Back to the Garden project Pictures will come. The second sample is being blocked now and has to dry.

Spinnen?

Spinning? The kilo of alpaca is glaring at me from its little corner. I'm nearly halfway. Singles. Plying will follow.

Weven? Kantklossen? Binnenkort...

Weaving? Lacemaking? No doubt there will be time for that again one day. I designed a namedraft in overshot - just have to make a warp and dress the loom... Soon...

Zomer!

Summer!

Today summer began, but it was grey and wet. On this longest day it is dark already. From now on days will get shorter again.

Yesterday rain was forecasted, but the sun shone and it felt like summer. So I did some laundry and decided to sit in the garden afterwards. Then I noticed the smell. To put it mildly there was a funny smell outside. But the sun was shining beautifully and I didn't want to let it keep me from sitting in my easy chair in the garden.... The smell was horrible!
In a field nearby people were harvesting garlic, and well, garlic tends to smell. A lot.
And so did my laundry.
And so did my bedroom, where the window was open.
And so did the garden.
Fortunately today the only place where the smell can be found is my bedroom. I think harvesting time is over.

Morgen krijgen we weer regen, donder en harde wind. Zomer.

Tomorrow rain, thunder and much wind is expected. Summer.

Even proberen

I can also write blogs on my iPad now. That should be very practical when I am away on holiday etc. But first I have to figure out now it all works and that takes a lot of time. Well, never mind.

Jarig.

Birthday

After the less cheerful events of the past few weeks it was time for a party. It was my birthday. And it was the long Whitsun weekend. Good opportunity for DD and her family to travel west, to spend a few days here.

Pepijn hadn't forgotten the promise, that the loom would be warped for him, as soon as he came to stay for a few days. So that had to happen right away.

His sister and brother were colouring a picture, for them a favorite pastime. Granny was allowed to thread the loom, although Pepijn enjoyed doing that himself, too, so now and then.
 Friso kleurt.

Friso colouring.
 Pepijn blij

Pepijn happy
De eerste inslagen zijn gemaakt. Hoera!

The first wefts have been put in. Hurrah!

In the mean time Emmeke was busy playing with Granny's new toy: an iPad, which I got as a birthday present. Lots of succes with all visitors!
Dolle pret!

Here I have a look at the mad pictures the children mad of themselves and the rest of the family. Fun!

But of course work had to go on: if you want to be a weaver when you grow up, you'll have to work!
And the work progressed quickly: the blanket for the pet toy had changed into a scarf for the weaver himself!

It's time to talk about my textile activities here again. After all some things have been made lately in spite of being busy.
In one of my last post I wrote, that I expected I would finish my weaving in that coming week - well, it hasn't grown one litlle (weft) thread. Nor has my lace grown one little bit. Those aren't things you take with you or pick up easily for just a few minutes.
It's different for knitting and I sooner sit at my spinning wheel as well.

Mijn Metamorphosis trui is eindelijk helemaal af.

My Metamorphosis sweater is done. The only thing left was blocking the sleeves, but that was something I kept putting off. Until yesterday and here is the picture of the sweater, hanging under the parasol (? the sun was shining again all day here) There was far too much wind, so the sweater kept moving too much. It gives an impression, though. I'm pleased with it: the sweater fits!

It wasn't all easy: at first I had no beads, then there wasn't enough yarn ( and nowhere it could be bought) Fortunately Sinaida, another list member helped me out with the yarn she had, leftover from a pair of socks she had knit of that same material. I also found beads and so I restarted several times.

Here a detail of the yoke, with beads, which are hard to see in the other picture.

The yoke was knit with alpaca/silk of Drops. Although I'm not really very fond of working with alpaca, be it knitting or spinning, I seem to work with it all the time.
I had quite a bit left of this purple yarn and wanted to take it back to the shop. Then I decided I wanted to experiment with it: I had seen a Drops pattern which I wanted to try. I bought another colour to go with it and now I have just over half a back of another sweater. Pictures will follow later.

The telephone rang. A breeder of alpacas in the neighbourhood had beautiful baby alpaca fleeces and wanted to have one of these spun for his own use. Could I do that? The fleece 'only' weighed 1 kilo, more or less (more) Of course I said yes... For well: babyalpaca... It is so soft. It is so crimpy. It is so beautiful. It really is very clean (for alpaca) It spins so fast: it takes only about an hour to spin 10 grams... You can figure out how long it takes to spin that kilo (=100x10 grams)

Spinning outside, in the shade - I can think of things that are worse!

Tenslotte: de achtergrondkleur van mijn blog is veranderd: het zwart was me even te somber.

Finally: the background of this blog has changed colour: the black was to sombre for me at the moment.
