Over mij

I'm a Dutch weaver, knitter, spinner, lacemaker and love anything that has to do with fiber and yarn. And of course I like to read books, magazines, newspapers.

After such a long time it is not simple to decide what to write about first.
I may not have blogged for a long time, but still was busy doing lots of things. Perhaps that was one of the reasons that it was really quieet here.

Om te beginnen deed mijn lijf vervelend. Het lopen ging me moeilijk af.

To begin with my body was giving problems. Walking was difficult. Physiotherapy should help. This happened en now I start every week with doing sports. (People who know me also know that that is a miracle) It makes me real tired, but it also helps a lot. I walk again better and further. No longdistance walks, but in any case I can do the things I want again (more or less)

In the Tour de Fleece this year I won a pre-yarn: a thin roving to be spun. That reminded me that I had something similar in my stash. Five years ago I bought that in Finland when we were travelling through that country with our caravan. In a little shop, in the middle of nowhere, I found this.

Choosing was hard, but in the end I took this home with me.

It lookes great with the prize I'd won. Here the prize is in the middle, between the Finnish wool I'd already spun and the part, that still had to be done. The thin roving had been wound with two at a time, so that I had to take those apart and wind them into balls before I could spin them

I plied prize and Finnish wool together and here is the result:

For the first time in years I made Christmas cads. Here a part of the production. I'll have a look if I can find more pictures of what I did this year. These stars we left from a few years bach, when these weren't finished in time for Christmas. I weave them in brocade, with sewing thread as tabby and warp and embroidery floss as pattern weft.

After weaving I often embroider lines alongside the pattern, to make the 'picture' is more visible.
Het weven gebeurt met de achterkant boven.

Weaving is done upside down.
