Over mij

I'm a Dutch weaver, knitter, spinner, lacemaker and love anything that has to do with fiber and yarn. And of course I like to read books, magazines, newspapers.

My neighbour phoned: 'My sheep have been shorn and please come and get the wool today, because it's in the way.'
I was shocked, because I hadn't finished spinning last year's wool. That was 22 fleeces! Fortunately it was a bit less this year.
The sheep were still in their stable and the night before a couple of lambs had been born. Every year they are so cute.
Hier een tweeling met hun moeder.
Even verderop stonden vijf jongedames. Hun wol zal vast heel mooi zijn. Wat lijken pas geschoren schapen toch enorm groot!

Here are the twins with their mother.
A little further on there were these five young ladies. No doubt their wool will be nice! How big sheep seem to be right after sheering!

I wrote earlier, that I'd been dyeing wool. That wasn't my familiar Clun Forest wool, but the wool of an unknow sheep breed: the wool had been left on my doorstep when I wasn't at home. I left part of the wool undyed. It's a bit yellow, but I rather like it. The carded wool feel lovely soft.

The rest of the wool went into the dyeing pot, with some Landscape dye. The first dyebath with two shades of red and some blue. I'd left the water level a bit high, so that it became almost one single colour. But the tips of the wool had a completely different colour from the butt (?) end.
Some dye was still in the water, so I put the rest of the wool in and added more blue. On the left of the photo the result: purplish blue and pink. I'm now trying to spin the wool pretty thick, which is a bit hard: the wool is very short.
Mijn fabelachtig truitje is bijna af!

My fabulous sweater is nearly finished. The last sleeve is getting on nicely.
It has to be, because I cast on a few new things again. This week I had a bad attack of starteritis. Last Tuesday I wanted to go to the SnB knitting cafe and there I can't knit something too complicated. Therefore I started a nice simple straight sock. Well, two socks at once on a circular needle, which not everybody considered to be so simple.
And then I made a sample with the very blue wool which I span a while ago. I had no idea what to make with it, because it was a bit too blue to my liking. Fortunately I had some thin handspun dark blue merino in my stash. With the two yarns used together the result rather pleases me more than expected, so now I want to knit on with that. But first I must finish the fabulous sweater.
