Mont Ventoux

For years I watch in summer the cycling race  Tour de France on television. So many places we've visited are shown and in any case France is a very beautiful country to see on television.

Last year when we were in France we couldn't go to the top of Mount Ventoux, because, although it was Aplril, Easter holidays, the roads to the top were closed because there was too much snow. This year that was different, so we had to go up.
Fortunately we went by car, but we were surprised by the number of cyclists, that went up. They were accompanied by friends or relatives, who parked their cars in a bend of the road, took a photo of their friend, struggling with the slope, jumped back into their cars, drove to the next bend and repeated the action. It made this a very busy mountain!
On the top everyone had to be photographed again, with the sign on which it said how high this mountain is. Its name is 'windy mountain' for a reason: it was very cold and windy on the top. Such a difference with the agreeable temperature in the valley!
 Ergens halverwege

The bare top is reached, with the well known tower, the only thing one sees from the valley.

You don't see this tourist trap around the tower from below

The cyclists take a rest and are photographed. We noticed that hardly anybody cycled down. The bicyles went in or on top of the cars and the cyclists were driven down.

It's very high indeed, that mountain!

It was one of the last trips we made there. It was time to go back home. When we reached our village we smelled the caulifower remains, that were rotting in the fields after the harvest. Then we know we're back at home...

During the holidays I did some knitting and spinning, but not really very much. Yet by now there are a few things to show. I'll show that in a next blog soon!

Your English always amazes me - your translation from Dutch is absolutely perfect. I don't know where you went to school, but kudos to your profs.

Re/availability of books, think about an ereader. Marion has one and encouraged me when I was trying to decide if I needed one or not. I chose Kindle and at this point can check out books from library on it.

Annie, think about getting an ereader. Marian has one and was one of the voices I listened to when I was trying to decide if I would actually use one. Talk to her - it makes getting the books you want to read very easy. Her point too was that they're light and easy to hold in bed.
