Last Sunday I sent a blog from my iPad, and that worked well, although I have to get used to it. So now I'm back at my trusted pc, and took photos with my trusted camera. That doesn't garantee quality, though, for the first picture I took of my WIP-sweater is not very clear. It does give an impression of what I'm doing, so it can stay.
I really had not enough of the red yarn, so yesterday I was in Wilbert's yarn shop. Fortunately he had a ball left, for red is a popular colour with Christmas approaching, and everybody seems to knit the christmas baubles, designed by two Norwegian chaps. Perhaps the rest of this ball I bought will disappear in a bauble.
De red ribbons are done and I've started knitting the sleeves. They are full of patterning, too, and take some time and attention. Under the knitting a picture of the sweater as it will be (I hope)
Because I was in the shop I also bought a gauge. I used to have a few, but lost them somehow. On the exchangeable KnitPicks needlepoints the size is printed, but that soon disappears when you use them. Confusing. So I bought this gadget. Now I could also see, if the needles I was using for the sweater were the same size. It said 4 mm on the ends of both, but the bottom one fit in the 4 mm hole without a problem, the top one certainly didn't!
A few pictures of exercise pieces of the Franders lace lessons.
This lace pattern is called The Monkey. Anybody an idea why? It is said to be a very old pattern.
I wrote about the carrier rods, a waste product of the silk industry. We dyed a few with indigo a few weeks ago. At home I boiled mine in a little soda, rinsed them with vinegar. Not much blue was left. Here they are drying. They have to be handled carefully after the 'glue' is washed out, because the short fibers fall apart easily.
On the right the result after spinning, plied with indigo wool. An unwashed, undyed ´rod´ is next to it. 3 ´rods´ gave me 37 meters of yarn. On the left yarn I spun from fiber I bought from Bart and Francis at the weavers market in Hoorn this summer. It was very slippery and shiny, but the result is nice, I think.
