Oberwiesenthal.
We spent a week's holiday in Southern Germany, in the town with this name. It's the highest town in Germany, situated on the Czech border, and we could walk across that border. The mountains in the back of the country, which formed the view from our windows were Czech, too. Oberwiesenthal is in the part of Germany called Sachsen.
The weather was great and felt like summer and the trees in all their autumn colours were lovely. We couldn't stop saying how lucky we were. And that in the end of October
These houses were at the bottom of the slope seen from our windows, beautiful in the sun.
The highest mountain of the neighbourhood, the Fichtelberg, looked very friendly from our balcony.
Ons hotel heette 'De vier jaargetijden'. Twee dagen na onze aankomst begrepen we waarom. Hier opnieuw de Fichtelberg, vanaf datzelfde balkon.
The name of our hotel was 'The four seasons'. Two days afterour arrival we understood why. Here another view from our balcony, of the Fichtelberg.
The first few days however, we could walk. We found our way through the town and saw the different signs that are typical for this area.
In the picture at the bottom you can see the lacemaker, working on her round pillow. In this area much lace is still made and this was one of the reasons why I wanted to visit this part of Germany.
Woodcarving and woodcutting is popular here as well. All shops are filled with woodwork.

And look here: in the window of the local chemist was the first lace pillow.
We were here on Sunday and all shops were closed. The local lace school, too. We decided to go back there later in the week. But when we did that on the following Friday it turned out to be a national holiday and everything was closed again. We could go in, but of course we could take a picture of their sign.
