I is voor...

Tja, in het Engels heb je met deze letter gelijk al een woord: I. In het Nederlands moet daar dan nog een k bij: ik. Vrij belangrijk, mag ik wel zeggen. Maar wie of wat ben ik dan wel in dit opzicht? Ben ik een wever, een spinner, een kantwerkster of een breier? Laat ik het maar in het midden houden: ik ben iemand, die niet kan kiezen!
In English this letter is also a word: I. In Dutch we need another letter added to it: ik. Pretty important, I must say. But who or what am I? Am I a weaver, a spinner, a lacemaker or a knitter? Let's keep it somewhere in the middle: I'm somebody who can't choose!


I staat natuurlijk ook voor ideeën en voor inspiratie. Het kan niemand ontgaan zijn, dat ik van mijn tuin houd. De planten, de bloemen, de kleuren. Zelfs met de zomer die we nu hebben zijn mijn geliefde fuchsia's nog mooi. Dat is voor mij zeer inspirerend.
Of course i is also for ideas and inspiration. Everyone wil have noticed that I love my garden. The plants, the flowers, the colours. Even in the summer we have now my beloved fuchsias are still beautiful. For me that is very inspiring.

Ja, de tuin is groot. Naast inspiratie geeft dat zo nu en dan ook irritatie: het onkruid groeit geweldig goed met dit weer! Het gras ook. Gras maaien duurt hier een hele dag.
Yes, the garden is big. Besides inspiration it also is a cause for irritation: weeds grow very well in this kind of weather! And so does the grass. Mowing the lawn takes a whole day here.

Een andere irritatie in de tuin, ook met een i: insecten! Als het een beetje warm wordt, komen ze aanvliegen: die driehoekige engerds met hun groene ogen. Ze steken je waar ze maar kunnen en zorgen voor enorme bulten.
Another irritation in the garden, also beginning with i: insects! As soon as the weather gets a bit warmer they come flying: those triangular creeps with their green eyes. They sting wherever they can and give you big itching bumps.

Dit is een mierennest. De woekerende bamboe zorgde ervoor, dat de tegels van ons terras omhoog kwamen. Toen bleek, dat het niet alleen bamboewortels waren, maar ook honderden mieren. Ik weet niet zeker, of mieren wel insecten zijn, maar dit plaatje vond ik bijzonder genoeg om hier te laten zien.
This is an ants' nest. The bambooplant threatened to take over our patio and we decided the tiles had to be lifted to take out the roots. Then we saw it wasn't only bamboo roots, but also hundres of ants. I'm not sure ants are insects, but I thought this picture was worth shoing here.

Tenslotte een textiele i: ikat. Tot nu toe niet een van mijn favoriete weeftechnieken, hoewel ik verscheidene ikatweefsels heb gemaakt. Geen foto, dus. Maar het staat beslist op mijn lijstje van dingen die ik binnenkort weer eens wil doen. Niet een heleboel afbindingen, maar een paar strepen met wat ikat daarin. De sjaal die ik ooit maakte, was veruit mijn favoriet. Daarin was maar heel weinig ikat, maar het maakte de sjaal net iets mooier.
Finally a textile i: ikat. Until now not one of my favorite weaves, although I made several ikats. So no photo here. But it certainly is on my to do list. Not with too many tie offs, but with a few stripes with a little ikat in them. The scarf I made in this way was my favorite. It only had very little ikat, but they made the scarf just a little prettier.
