Last Sunday we went out on a trip in the neighbourhood and had fun. It isn't always necessary to go far to have a good time.
First we went to a nearby village, Aartswoud, where there was an exhibition on sheep, how to breed them and about wool. As a spinner one has to go and see of course. At the entrance there was a poster with all breeds one can find in the Netherlands.
There was a tray with the wool of a number of these breeds
On a long strip of pictures the process of shearing could clearly be followed
There were old pictures of sheep, beautiful new photos and baskets full of wool, with the name of the breed clearly visible
Products made of wool and a lot of sheep, in various sizes
Newpaper cuttings with articles about sheep from old times
Buiten de kerk gaven twee dames een viltdemonstratie
Outside two ladies demonstrated felting
Next we went to Hoogwoud, where knitting bags with tiny beads could be seen in the museum farm there.
Knitting the bags got a lot of attention
In the small, dark room, the work went on as usual.
Quite a collection of knitted bags
Further on in the museum many differen old caps from the area.
At half a meter below sea level, as was painted on the street, we saw a lot of fine things on that sunny Sunday afternoon!
